TAKEFIX-100/200 Tablets

TAKEFIX-100/200 Tablets
Cefixime 100,200 mg

Cefixime is a semisynthetic, cephalosporin antibiotic for oral administration.

As with other cephalosporins, bactericidal action of cefixime results from inhibition of cell- wall synthesis.
Cefixime is highly stable in the presence of beta-lactamase enzymes. As a result, many organisms resistant to
penicillins and some cephalosporins due to the presence of beta-lactamases, may be susceptible to cefixime.

Cefixime exhibits good invitro activity with MIC90 <1mg/I, against most of the enterobacteriaceae, haemophilus influenzae and neisseria gonorrhoea (including b-Iactimase producing strains), beta haemolytic streptococci of groups A and B streptococcus pneumoniae. However staphylococcus aureig is considerably less susceptible and faecal streptococci, pseudomonas aeroginosa, most anaerobes and chlamydia trachomatis are insusceptible. Against enterobacteriaceae, it's activity is normally superior to that of amoxicillin, cefaclor, and cephalexin, but inferior to that of ciprofloxacin. It is more active than than co- trimoxazole against certain species (providencia stuartii, proteus vulgaris and klebsiella spp) but less active against escherichia coli, enterobacter cloacae and enterobacter aerogenes against H .influenza and N .gonorrhoea
